How _____ can we be?

A week has passed and the meteor that slapped us upside the head last week is yesterday’s news.

For a minute after it hit, I wondered if the event would enlighten us from our fixation with glass houses – how naive that thought was in retrospect. #YOLO. Right?

It’s like we don’t take anything seriously anymore.

Back in the day, they used to sacrifice and build temples for these type of events. Probably on the extreme side but at least they revered it. The display of power. Immense power that we’ll never be able to fully articulate through words or even IMAX  movies. A divine power that was captured in a state where dashboard cameras are the norm for the world to see. And yet most of us watching on YouTube, wont even whisper a prayer.

The funny thing is, as resounding as the meteor was, it was just a trickle. A mere fragment of power that was able to indirectly injure 1,200 people, without causing a known deathA fragment with a force that smashed hundreds, if  not thousands, of window panes so hard, the frames imploded.

Despite that, some neighbouring properties remained unscathed. The New York Times reports:

behind unshattered apartment windows, glass jugs were said to explode into shards, dishes to crack, electronics to die. Balconies rattled. One man said a bottle broke right in his hand.

And yet here we are, arrogant species, sitting comfortably making exalted predictions about the relatively insignificant 2012 DA14 asteroid that passed over the bay of San Francisco later that same day.

Great, and by the way, I can’t wait for the next Walking Dead episode to come on.

I mean, how _____ can we be?

Literally stumbled across this Mexican joint on my way to Sequoia Park…

Choco's Tacos & BBQ

Stumbled across this place by accident as we pulled over to fill the car with gas on the way to Sequoia National Park.

Tried them out and was blown away by how delicious the Carne Asada Fries were… so good in fact that I ended up ordering another burrito and a fish taco.

This is likely the best Mexican I’ve ever had and gets my top recommendation to anyone in the area.

Photosynth and some random thoughts on Microsoft

Photosynth is now available for Windows Phone users… Finally…

I always thought it was a little embarrassing on Microsoft’s part to let iPhone users enjoy and brag about their awesome Photosynth app for over a year before eventually supporting their own Windows Phone customers. I’m sure there are valid reasons but its really inexcusable to make your own customers wait over a year to try it out.

Microsoft's Photosynth

Microsoft has been putting out some great products lately but they seem to be suffering a serious lack good branding creativity, reminiscient of Nokia in their N95 heydays.

Bing will never be a verb, Live wasn’t used properly and Hotmail needs to just die already.

But at least those are just one word.

SkyDrive elicits a big yawn and Windows Phone just sounds like someone’s grandfather named it with all those letters and words. Personally I think “Cumulus” and/or “Nimbus” would have been a far more awesome name for their cloud services. But that’s just me.

Anyways, it’s a cool app. You can check out a few of my Photosynths here:

F’Amelia

Just tried this delicious Italian restaurant called F’Amelia over the weekend.

We started with an asparagus salad with burrata cheese on the side. Mind = blown. The sweet white asparagus and seasonal green onion bulb (can’t remember what it was called) was perfectly complimented by the creamy fresh mozzarella.

The Diavoli pizza and Tagliatelle with braised rabbit were also a tasty treat on the patio in the beautiful weather.

I’ll definitely go back.

Ever take out your phone… Just to look at it??

Lumia 800
Have you ever caught yourself pulling out your phone for no good reason?

  • What time is it? Oh wait, I didn’t care.
  • Did I get any message since I last checked 5 minutes ago? No. But I already knew that because my phone didn’t notify me.
  • Did anything awesome happen on Twitter, BBM or Facebook in the last 10 minutes? Probably not.
  • I think I’ll just scroll through my inbox or applications while I’m on this elevator.
  • Maybe you just wanted to fondle it…
  • Or show it off…

If this is you, you’re not alone.

Checking my phone has become THE unconscious response of choice to the slightest scintilla of boredom.

What did people do 50 years ago?
Heck, what did I do… 15 years ago?

help???
